Kulturspotting is an interactive media project that encourages dialogue and community engagement in neighbourhoods undergoing development. Kulturspotting was initially developed for Norra Sorgenfri, in Malmö, Sweden – a non-residential, post-industrial area near the centre of town that might initially seem foreboding and lifeless. But behind thick walls and locked doors, Norra Sorgenfri contains artist ateliérs, recording studios and other significant creative activity – which is effectively hidden from public awareness.
Kulturspotting invites participants to be detectives and, using custom-built interactive tools, track down and discover the hidden creative activity for themselves. The prototype was developed by me and three other design students during my IxD master studies.
